Brian spent his last week of school trying to stop rumors he was diagnosed as some kind of crazy banana-boy who had to return to the zoo when he wasn't at school. When Brian found his parents listening to the radio, he wondered why he even bothered.
"This is Sebastian Mimbleshaw," said the voice from the radio. "Tenth caller, with whom do I have the pleasure of speaking?"
"It is Spot," the little dog said into the phone. "I am... zee King of zee World..."
"—what do you think you're doing?" said Brian. "Don't you know to keep the dog from calling the radio shows?"
"Relax," said Brian's mother. "There's no call. The dog's only pretending. It's funny."
"This dog is remarkable," said Brian's father. "He mimics human voices — almost like he talks for real. Did you say he's from the circus?"
"He's so cute when he pretends to talk on the phone," said Brian's mother. "Like your baby cousin Steve. Or like you, when you started to talk and we let you babble to your grandparents over the phone."
"He says he's the King of the World," said Brian's father. "—I love it. You know, maybe it wouldn't be so terrible if his owners never claim him."
"Sebastian, my name is Susan," said a second radio voice.
"Susan," said the announcer. "You can win a thousand dollars if you tell me the name of the dog elected mayor of Sunol, California."
"Yes, I believe his name was Bosco," said Susan. "He was a Black Labrador."
"Susan," said the announcer. "You've won yourself a thousand dollars."
"—eeeee," said Susan.
